Come and see Wiltshire based stone carver and National Trust trained Stone and Heritage Mason, David Wilkins in his purpose built Stone Studio where he invites you to join his regular experience days, taster sessions and workshops.
Based within Eastcott Studios in Swindon, Wiltshire, David will introduce you to this traditional craft, offer guidance, support and provide you with the tools and materials you will need to complete your first stone carving.
As a professional Stone Mason David is also available for commissions, consultancy and can often be seen working on his own projects which are also available for sale.
We welcome beginners and more experienced stone carvers alike.
We run one-day Introductory stone carving workshops and occasional taster sessions where you are introduced to the basic techniques, tools and materials and are encouraged to complete a piece of relief carving for you to take home.
After this, or if you already have previous experience, you are then welcome to join our evening workshops where you plan, design and work on your individual stone carving projects under the watchful eye of experienced stone mason David.

The course is aimed at complete beginners, i.e. those wishing to try a new craft, find a new hobby, try a different art medium or generally are just interested! We have a flexible approach, small classes and an experienced instructor so we can tailor it to your individual needs.
A block of limestone and tools will be provided and by the end of the day you will have something carved by yourself in stone to take home. You will have the opportunity to carve in relief from a selection of designs and examples, or, if you wish, you can use your own design. You will be introduced to the basic skills, techniques, safety training and design requirements you will need to start your stone carving journey.
If you already have some stone carving skills and would like a refresher, or would simply just like to spend a day stone carving with us, you are also more than welcome to join this all day workshop.

Each Voucher is valid for one year starting from the date of the next available course. (To ensure a spot on one of the course dates we ask that the voucher holder confirms their intended attendance at least 1 month before the course start date)
Further workshop details
- All carving equipment will be provided including safety goggles
- The day will start at 10.30am and finish at 4pm
- Please bring any refreshments you may need (there is a cafe on site but please check your workshop times against opening hours).
- Please wear appropriate, STURDY, enclosed footwear
- You will need warm, old clothes you do not mind getting dirty that are suitable for working outdoors or in the stone studio.
- Face covering / mask are provided if required
- Some onsite car parking may be available at the front of the building, alternatively, there are public car parks a few minutes walk away.
